FSK-2051 Aquatic Biology II - 10 stp

Type of course

This is an elective course for students in the bachelor’s programme in Fisheries and Aquaculture science. The course is available as a singular course.  

Course contents

This is a bachelor course on aquatic biology and ecology. The course is intended to broaden and deepen students understanding on the ecology of aquatic systems and the interaction between species and their environment. After completion of the course, students will have developed several scientific skills and acquired strong biological knowledge in aquatic systems.

Application deadline

Applicants from Nordic countries: 1 December for the spring semester. Exchange students and Fulbright students: 1 October for the spring semester.

Admission requirements

Higher Education Entrance Qualification (generell studiekompetanse) or prior learning and work experience (realkompetanse).

Objective of the course

Language of instruction

The language of instruction in this course is English, and all the syllabus materials is in English. The exams can be written in English or Norwegian.

Teaching methods

The course will be taught as a series of lectures, seminars, fieldwork and laboratory exercise. Necessary safety training for laboratory and fieldwork will be given.

Assessment

Case studies (written essay and presentation, 60 % of mark) and oral examination (40 % of mark).

A graded scale of five marks from A to E for pass and F for fail.

Re-sit exam

There will be a re-sit examination for candidates who did not pass the previous examination. The re-sit exam will be to submit a revised version of the essay, do a new presentation and a new oral examination.
