Vår 2021

KJE-3301 Organic Chemistry 2 - 20 stp

The course is administrated by

Institutt for kjemi

Type of course

Theoretical and practical subject. The course is available as a singular or elective course independent of study program, also to exchange students. The course is offered on condition that a minimum number of students register for the course (minimum every second year).

This course will be given as a 2-semester course (autumn 2020-spring 2021, exam spring 2021).

Course overlap

K-230 Organic chemistry II 15 stp

Course contents

The course is a continuation of KJE-1002, Organic Chemistry, and you will do your first steps into the exciting and challenging field of organic synthesis. Several topics known from KJE-1002 like enol chemistry will be treated in more detail. Additionally, a series of new and important types of reactions and their mechanisms will be introduced, e.g. radical reactions, reactions of carbenes, pericyclic reactions and peptide couplings. Important features in the planning of organic syntheses like chemo-, regio- and stereoselectivity and control by protection/deprotection strategies are discussed. In the lab, you will become familiar with general laboratory practice including safety, performance of a range of organic reactions and different separation techniques.

Application deadline

Applicants from Nordic countries: 1 June for the autumn semester

Exchange students and Fulbright students: 15 April for the autumn semester.

Admission requirements

Admission requires a Bachelor`s degree (180 ECTS) in Chemistry or equivalent.

Students must have knowledge in theoretical and practical organic chemistry equivalent to Kje-1002 and Kje-1003.

Objective of the course

The candidate will have acquired a solid and broad theoretical basis to understand organic chemistry. This means that the student
