A relevant undergraduate bachelor Engineering programme with minimum 30 credits Mathematics/statistics topics.
Recommended prerequisite knowledge:An undergraduate Bachelor Engineering degree in mechanics, structural or equivalent.

Objective of the course
The course will give students an introduction to design methods within the segments of product, engineering, and industrial design. Students will be able to carry out a systematic design process when the course is finished. In addition, the course will give students an insight to industrial design regarding design, ergonomics, aesthetics and market strategic design so the students will be able to redesign a product specifically for aesthetic expression.
After passing the course, students will have the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge and understanding:
After completing the course, the candidate:
- has some knowledge of different theories and methods in the field of engineering design (K2)
- can apply knowledge to new areas within the academic field of materials, systematic design process, creativity methods and engineering design (K3)
Skills:
After completing the course, the candidate:
- can analyze and deal critically with various sources of information and use them to structure and formulate scholarly arguments (S1)
- can carry out an independent, limited research or development project under supervision and in accordance with applicable norms for research ethics (S4)
Competence:
After completing the course, the candidate:
- can apply the knowledge and skills within engineering design in some new areas in order to carry out advanced assignments and projects (GC2)
- can communicate extensive independent work and masters language and some terminology of the academic field of engineering design (GC3)
- can contribute to new thinking and innovation processes (GC5)
Language of instruction
Teaching methods
Lectures, problem sessions and a project run by the students under guidance by a supervisor. Lab work and operation of 3D printers.
Teaching and Examination Language:
Lecturing language is set to Norwegian unless international students are at place (Provided the presence of English speaking students, English will be chosen). .
The project report can be written in either Norwegian or English. Oral presentation can be in Norwegian or English.

The candidate/ group must deliver a scientific report concluding the project
Examination and assessment
1. Oral presentation of the project.
2. Letter grading A – F, where F is fail grade.
3. There will not be arranged a re-sit exam for this course.
