Objective of the course
Learning outcomes, skills and attitudes
The purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to the concept of virtual prototyping within the field of engineering design. The course will provide the students the knowledge to analyse, present/ visualize and simulate the characteristics of some (technical) products with the help of 3D CAD software for mechanical design and other numerical computation software.
Knowledge:
After completing the course, the candidate:
- can apply knowledge to new areas within the academic field of materials, systematic design process, computational methods, engineering design (K3)
Skills:
After completing the course, the candidate:
- can analyse and deal critically with various sources of information and use them to structure and formulate scholarly arguments (S1)
- can carry out an independent, limited research or development project under supervision and in accordance with applicable norms for research ethics (S4)
General competence:
After completing the course, the candidate:
- can apply the knowledge and skills within engineering design in new areas in order to carry out advanced assignments and projects (GC2)
- can communicate extensive independent work and masters language and some terminology of the academic field of engineering design (GC3)
Language of instruction
Teaching methods
Lectures, problem sessions and a project run by the students under guidance by a supervisor.
Lectures will be held in Norwegian or English (Provided the presence of English speaking students, English will be chosen).
Lecture notes will be given in English.
Assessment
Examination and assessment
Project (individual or group work).
By the end of the project, the candidates will give an oral presentation.
Grading will be done by using A-F grading scale, F is Fail.
Letter grading A - F, where F is fail grade.
There will not be arranged a re-sit exam for this course.
