ENG-1015 Introduction to English Word and Sentence Structure - 10 stp

Course contents

The course offers an introduction to English grammar, with emphasis on word and sentence structure. Word classes and word order, temporality and aspect are standard areas of study. In this regard, the course will also attend to aspects of language acquisition, historical development and geographical and social variation. The course keeps a contrastive Norwegian-English perspective when this is relevant. The students are to write two term papers that focuses on one of the subjects studied during the term.

Application deadline

Applicants from Nordic countries: 1 December for the spring semester and 1 June for the autumn semester.

Exchange students and Fulbright students: 1 October for the spring semester and 15 April for the autumn semester.

Quality assurance: The course undergoes a midterm evaluation or an end-of-term evaluation every third year.


Assessment

The obligatory coursework requirements must be approved in order to take the final exam.

Coursework requirements: Two short papers.

Assessment method: A 4-hour school exam.

Performance in the course will be assessed on an A-F grades scale. Grades are A-E for passed and F for failed. A re-sit examination is offered in the event of an F grade. The deadline to register (in the Studentweb) for a re-sit examination is August 15th (for the spring semester).

The date for the exam can be changed. The final date will be announced at your faculty early in May and early in November.
