TEK-3015 Multiphysics Simulation - 10 stp
The course is administrated by
Institutt for automasjon og prosessteknologi
Type of course
The course is technical and may be taken as a singular course.
Course overlap
TEK-3604 Multiphysics Simulation 10 stp
Course contents
The course will divided into two main parts. Structures (mechanics of materials) and fluid mechanics / heat transfer. Student will learn about structures problem and simulation techniques with the use of Multiphysics modelling technique - FEM (Finite Element Methods). Similarly, student will learn about fluid mechanics / heat transfer problem with the use of Multiphysics modelling techniques. FVM / FDM (Finite Volume Methods / Finite Difference Methods). In both, students will learn about governing equations, discretization techniques, initial & boundary conditions and solving techniques. They will also learn ANSYS® Multiphysics and MATLAB® software.
Objective of the course
Knowledge:
- The candidate will learn the basics of Multiphysics simulation and acquire important knowledge about setting up one.
- The candidate will learn certain advance concepts in relation to mechanics of materials and fluid mechanics / heat transfer.
Skills:
- Candidates will understand the term Multiphysics and its relation to practical problems.
- Candidates will build knowledge in discretisation techniques used in Multiphysics simulations such as FEM, Finite Difference Method (FDM), Finite Volume Method (FVM), etc.
- Candidates will discretise the partial differential equations (PDE) of structures, fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
- Candidates will apply the correct boundary and initial conditions in solving the Multiphysics simulation problems.
- Candidates will also learn about the use of computational resources in solving Multiphysics simulation problems.
General Competence:
- The candidate will be able to appreciate the importance of Multiphysics simulation towards engineering applications.
- The candidate will also build understanding of margin of error between real cases to simulated ones.
