BVE-1031 Activities and activation in environmental work - 15 stp

A key component of the course is presenting various activities, each of which may be applied in milieu therapy work. The course introduces milieu therapy theories and work methods that may be applied in work to support the development of children, young people and families, and in preventive work and care and milieu therapy work.

The course also introduces special education measures that will strengthen social competence, and help prevent and reduce problem behaviour in children and young people. This involves the methodological use of activities in environments such as kindergarten and school to promote well-being, contact, learning and development.

The course will raise the students¿ awareness of their resources when it comes to milieu therapy work and activity courses.

The student can choose between various activity courses.

The students admitted at the Bachelor in Social Work and the Bachelor in Child Welfare are allowed to take this course. The course is in addition open for the exchange students coming from Higher Education Institutions that have a cooperation agreement with the Department of Child Welfare and Social Work. Exchange students who do not study Social Work or Child Welfare at their home institutions are not allowed to choose this course.

This course, BVE-1031, must be combined together with the course BVE-1052.

Only 5 exchange students will be admitted.

After successful completion of the course the candidate shall:

Knowledge

• be aware of different work methods in milieu therapy work
• be aware of key concepts and theories in networking and family treatment
• have knowledge of special education measures for children and young people
• have knowledge of individual plans as tools, including user participation
• have an insight into how activities contribute to development and change in children and young people
• have insight into the prevention of problem behaviour in children and young people

Skills

• plan and implement an activity with focus on aesthetic experience, relationship building and mastering
• reflect on how they can use their resources in milieu therapy work
• plan, implement and evaluate special education measures

General competence

Can:

• account for key milieu therapy methods and principles in purposeful development and change work with children/young people/families
• facilitate empowerment and strengthening of the children and young people¿s social skills
• practice didactic planning, implementation and evaluation of measures involving activities
• recognise new thinking and innovation in the milieu therapy work  

• compulsory skills training
• lectures
• self-studies
• various types of student active learning methods, individually and in groups
• written and oral reflection over groups and group processes

Following coursework requirements must be approved before the candidate may present themselves for the examination:

• Oral presentation in groups linked to the skills training
• Attendance in compulsory skills training

Examination and assessment:

• Individual written home examination (3 days)

The examination is assessed using the grading scale from A-F, whereby F is regarded as fail.A re-sit examination is arranged for students who receive grade F/fail so they can follow the normal study progression.

The date for the exam can be changed. The final date will be announced at your faculty early in May and early in November.
