Admission requirements
The students admitted at the Bachelor in Social Work and the Bachelor in Child Welfare are allowed to take this course. The course is in addition open for the exchange students coming from Higher Education Institutions that have a cooperation agreement with the Department of Child Welfare and Social Work. Exchange students who do not study Social Work or Child Welfare at their home institutions are not allowed to choose this course.
This course, BVE-1052, must be combined together with the course BVE-1031.
Only 5 exchange students will be admitted.
Objective of the course
After successful completion of the course the candidate shall:
Knowledge
Have knowledge of:
- key concepts and theories in a public health perspective, including early intervention, health promotion and preventive work
- the importance of networking and relation building for mental health
- family therapy approaches
- inclusion and exclusion mechanisms in general and within the child and youth group in particular
- social inequalities in health and development
- cross-cultural meetings and communication
- conflict theory and conflict work
Skills
- identify potential factors that promote and hinder health in child and youth networks
- plan, adapt and implement systematic and methodological milieu therapy work at the individual, group and community level
- various methods of community work and collective approaches, including outreach work with children and young people, fieldwork
- reflect on ethical challenges in groups and at the community level
- cooperate with different user groups and have competence in communication in a multicultural society
General competence
- plan, implement and evaluate a project in child and youth groups in different preventive areas for milieu therapy work
- have knowledge of quality assurance and internal control in milieu therapy work
- have insight into professional and ethical issues associated with the public health perspective, social inequalities, early intervention, health promotion and preventive work

Assessment
Following coursework requirements must be approved before the candidate may present themselves for the examination:
- Project work in groups with oral presentation to the class through various communication channels/forms
- Attendance in compulsory skills training
Examination and assessment
- Individual Four-hour written examination
The examination is assessed using the grading scale from A-F, whereby F is regarded as fail. A re-sit examination is arranged for students who receive grade F/fail so they can follow the normal study progression.
Date for examination
The date for the exam can be changed. The final date will be announced at your faculty early in May and early in November.
