JUR-3619 Energy Law - 15 stp

Type of course

Master level students.

Course contents

The course will cover the following topics: introduction to energy and energy law; energy policy - including links to energy security and environmental policy; ownership of energy resources; oil and gas licensing regimes; the protection of energy investments; the regulation of the energy industry both network bound industries (electricity and natural gas) and regulating for competition; legal issues associated with the renewables sector (e.g. wind and solar) and energy conservation including market based schemes (e.g. green and white certificates)

Admission requirements

Students should have a basic knowledge of administrative law and international law. Students who do not have admission to the Master of Law-studies at the Faculty of Law must contact the Faculty for information about required qualifications and how to apply for this course.

Language of instruction

All teaching will be held in English and the exam must be written in English.

Teaching methods

30 hours of teaching divided between lectures and seminars. Student participation is sought through discussion of the prescribed material.

Assessment

The course is assessed through a 6 hour written exam. The exam may include theoretical and/or scenario questions. Students may bring a dictionary into the examination room. The grading scale of A to F is applied, where F constitutes fail. Students who fail their examination are entitled to re-sit the examination, cf. Regulations for examinations at the University of Tromsø Sec. 22.

The date for the exam can be changed. The final date will be announced at your faculty early in May and early in November.
