Application deadline
Exchange students and Fulbright students: 1. October.
Admission requirements
A relevant undergraduate bachelor Engineering programme with minimum 30 credits Mathematics/statistics topics
Application code: 9371
An undergraduate Bachelor Engineering degree in mechanics, structural or equivalent.
Objective of the course
Learning outcomes, skills and attitudes
The course will give students an introduction to design methods within the segments of product, engineering, and industrial design. Students will be able to carry out a systematic design process when the course is finished. In addition, the course will give students an insight to industrial design regarding design, ergonomics, aesthetics and market strategic design so the students will be able to redesign a product specifically for aesthetic expression.
Knowledge:
After completing the course, the candidate:
- has some knowledge of different theories and methods in the field of engineering design (K2)
- can apply knowledge to new areas within the academic field of materials, systematic design process, creativity methods and engineering design (K3)
Skills:
After completing the course, the candidate:
- can analyze and deal critically with various sources of information and use them to structure and formulate scholarly arguments (S1)
- can carry out an independent, limited research or development project under supervision and in accordance with applicable norms for research ethics (S4)
General competence:
After completing the course, the candidate:
- can apply the knowledge and skills within engineering design in some new areas in order to carry out advanced assignments and projects (GC2)
- can communicate extensive independent work and masters language and some terminology of the academic field of engineering design (GC3)
- can contribute to new thinking and innovation processes (GC5)
Language of instruction
Teaching methods
Lectures, problem sessions and a project run by the students under guidance by a supervisor.
Lectures will be held in Norwegian or English (Provided the presence of English speaking students, English will be chosen).
Lecture notes will be given in English.

Submission deadline for the report will be a couple of days prior to the date sett for the oral presentation.
The report will be delivered in PDF format and along with the additional files (pictures, CAD files etc) should be bundled in a ZIP file. The ZIP file should be uploaded by the candidate to the dedicated project page on the Canvas. The physical models should be taken by the student to the oral presentation. The students keeps the models after the examination.
Grading will be done by using A-F grading scale, F is Fail.
