STE6249-001 Virtual Reality, Graphics and Animation - theory - 5 stp

The course may be taken as a single subject.

Course contents

Basic visualization techniques, OpenGL, display hierarchy, camera and light, collision control, constraints, particles, mirroring textures and more. Shader programming, active objects, virtual environments, virtual control panels and other interface techniques, animation techniques and interactive simulations.

Exchange students and Fulbright students: 1 October

Admission requirements

A relevant undergraduate bachelor Engineering programme with minimum 30 credits Mathematics/statistics topics

Required prerequisite knowledge: STE6238 Geometric Modeling

Recommended prerequisite knowledge: Knowledge of OpenGL and C++

Objective of the course

Learning outcomes, skills and attitudes

On completion of the course the successful student is expected to have the following:


Be able to describe in words, the central terminology, definitions, standards, methods and trends within the areas that are included in this course (K3).


Be able to use the knowledge to analyse and plan how to solve concrete examples (S1).

General competence

Know that basic visualisation techniques can be used in computer graphics, VR and animations / simulations (GC2).

Theory part with lessons and two mandatory assignments.

Two mandatory tasks.

Form of assessment: Project (Home examination).

Grouping: Individual

Grading will be done by using A-F grading scale, F is Fail. A re-sit exam will be arranged for this course.

Project hand in date 31.05.2019

The date for the exam can be changed. The final date will be announced at your faculty early in May and early in November.
