Valgfritt emne i arkeologi. Emnet kan tas som enkeltemne.
Emnet komplementerer et ellers sterkt fokus på nordisk arkeologi, ved å gi studentene innsikt i hvordan arkeologiske problemer formuleres og utforskes i andre deler av verden.
Introduksjonsemne i arkeologi (ARK-1014 Hva er arkeologi?) eller tilsvarende er obligatorisk forkunnskapskrav. Det anbefales også å ha tatt et annet kulturhistorisk emne (ARK-1012 Fra istidsjegere til jordbrukere eller ARK-1013 Høvdingdømmer og stater, samer og nordmenn).

Etter bestått emne har studentene følgende læringsutbytte:

Studenten har:
- Kjennskap til arkeologiske problemstillinger som står sentralt på en global skala
- Innsikt i hvordan komparative studier kan bidra til forståelsen av kulturell variasjon og endring
- Konkret empirisk kunnskap om kulturell variasjon i forskjellige deler av verden
- Innsikt i hvordan forskjellige fortolkningsrammer påvirker forståelsen av fortid
Ferdigheter
Studenten kan:
- Analysere arkeologisk materiale fra forskjellige "cases" for å vurdere til hvilken grad komparative data kan brukes for å trekke slutninger om kulturell variasjon og utvikling
- Sammenfatte arkeologisk data for å diskutere og analysere en bestemt problemstilling
Undervisnings- og eksamensspråk
Undervisningsspråket er norsk.
Eksamensspråket er norsk, svensk eller dansk. Søknad om å få skrive besvarelsen på engelsk og/eller få engelsk oppgavetekst rettes til instituttet.
Undervisning
Undervisningen består av 10 dobbelttimer forelesninger og 3 dobbelttimer seminarer. Forelesningene vil fremstille en sammenhengende oversikt over de utvalgte arkeologiske temaene, mens seminarene vil fokusere på analysering av "case studies".
Alle emner evalueres en gang i løpet av programperioden. Programstyret avgjør hvilke emner som skal evalueres av studenter og lærer per år.
Eksamen
Arbeidskrav:
Følgende arbeidskrav må være gjennomført og godkjent før man kan fremstille seg til eksamen:
- Innlevering av to «case-studies»-vurderinger basert på seminararbeidet, 2 sider (700-800 ord) til hver «case-studie». Vurderingene må leveres inn uken etter seminaret de er tilknyttet til.
- Innlevering av en prosjektbeskrivelse til en hjemmeoppgave (1-2 sider, 300-500 ord), mot slutten av undervisningen.
Eksamen:
Eksamen består av:
- En 8-10 siders (3000-3500 ord) sammenfattende hjemmeoppgave på en selvvalgt, godkjent problemstilling.
Eksamen vurderes med bokstavkarakter A-F, der F regnes som stryk/ikke bestått.
Kontinuasjonseksamen:
Ved karakter F/ikke bestått tilbys kontinuasjonseksamen i begynnelsen av påfølgende semester. Ved gyldig forfall tilbys utsatt eksamen i begynnelsen av påfølgende semester. Frist for oppmelding til kontinuasjonseksamen er 15. januar for eksamen i høstsemesteret og 15. august for eksamen i vårsemesteret.
Dato for eksamen
Eksamensdato er foreløpig og vil kunne bli endret. Endelig eksamensdato kunngjøres ved oppslag på det enkelte fakultet primo mai for vårsemesteret og primo november for høstsemesteret.
