Application deadline
PhD students at UiT The Arctic University of Norway register for class and exam in Studentweb by 1 February for spring semester and 1 September for autumn semester.
Other applicants: Application deadline is 1 December for spring semester and 1 June for autumn semester. Application code 9303 in Søknadsweb.
Admission requirements
PhD students or holders of a Norwegian Master of Science degree of five years or 3+ 2 years (or equivalent) may be admitted. PhD students must upload a document from their university stating that there are registered PhD students. This group of applicants does not have to prove English proficiency and are exempt from semester fee.
Holders of a Master´s degree must upload a Master´s Diploma with Diploma Supplement / English translation of the diploma. Applicants from listed countries must document proficiency in English. To find out if this applies to you see the following list:

Objective of the course
Knowledge The candidate:
has advanced knowledge of the maritime stakeholders and their interrelationships, - has advanced knowledge of the key regulations that guide actions in the maritime industry, - can evaluate the limitations on innovation and research projects imposed by regulations and industry standards.
Skill
The candidates shall be able to: - handle the complex issues involving requirements for innovations in maritime industry, - propose and evaluate research and innovation projects in accordance with requirements of the triple helix (maritime industry, society and academia), - critically examine regulations and standards to identify the viability and limits of different developments in services, technology and operational management.
Competence
The candidates can: - assess the limitations and possibilities on innovation set by standards and regulation, - identify the connection between the phases of maritime operations and the challenges in each part of these phases, - identify new research question/hypothesis of relevance, - identify the TRL of their own and other´s research projects in relations to the state-of-art, - identify the relationship between their own research project and the needs in the international maritime industry.

Assessment
The student will write a review paper reflecting the implementation of contents covered in the course in the student´s individual research project. The paper must be equivalent in size and depth of an academic article. After the submission and subsequent evaluation of the manuscript the student must go through an oral examination. The paper and oral examination will be graded together and will be given the grades "Passed" or "Not Passed".
There is no access to a re-sit examination. Students with valid absence will be offered a postponed examination.
