STE6225 El Machines and Power Electronics 2 - 5 stp

Course contents

The course will describe the design and operation of electrical energy converters and electric motor drives with emphasis on dynamic operating characteristics.

Converter circuit topologies, dynamic models, and control strategies of power electronic systems for renewable energy and electric machine drives.

Modeling on mechanical and electrical system components in electromechanical energy conversion systems

Design implementation aided by computer simulations with MATLAB and Simulink.


Admission requirements

A relevant undergraduate bachelor Engineering program with minimum 30 credits mathematic/statistics topics

Suggested pre-requisites:

Completion of the subject STE 6217 El Machines and Power Electronics 1 or similar

Completion of the subject STE 6215 Control Engineering 1 or similar

Teaching methods

Teaching method is project oriented, with co-operative learning in groups, facilitated by a student design project in which simulation and model-based design of an electric drive system is performed.

A number of lectures and individual assignments, where theoretical issues in Power Electronics and Drives are given.

Assessment

Overall assessment based on Oral examination and compulsory project work.

The final evaluation will be based on an oral examination (counting 50%) and a project report (counting 50%) the grading of these are combined to a final grade. 

Grading scale is from A (highest) to F (lowest), with E as the minimum pass grade.

The date for the exam can be changed. The final date will be announced at your faculty early in May and early in November.
