PSY-3000 Research Proseminar - 10 stp

Type of course

This course is only for students that has admission to the master program in psychology.

Course contents

The intent of this course is to present and familiarize the new Master's students with research going on at the Department of Psychology during the first semester in the program. This will create the foundation for selecting a supervisor and developing a research path for a master's thesis. The main goal of the Proseminar is to offer to the new students a smorgasbord of the research being conducted in real time at the department. Each teacher will focus on the specific problem/s they have been focussing during their career. Teachers will also focus on the specific techniques and methods they use in their research (e.g., specific types of statistical analyses, technology)

Objective of the course

The course is mandatory the first semseter on the MA curriculum.

The intent of this course is to present and familiarize the new Master's students with research going on at the Department of Psychology during the first semester in the program.


Language of instruction

English.

Teaching methods

A two-hour lecture for each of the presented topics. In addition, up to four hours of supervision are offered in relation to the mandatory review paper.

Participation in at least 80% of lectures, and submission of a 10-page review paper. Students select one of the presented research topics to write a 10-page review paper about.


Assessment

A take-home exam of 10 pages in length. Students choose one of the presented research themes about which they want to write a review paper. The exam will be evaluated as pass/fail. In the event that an exam is evaluated as "fail", there will be an opportunity to submit a new or revised exam at the beginning of the next semester.
