BIO-3521 Seminar in freshwater ecology - 5 stp

Type of course
Master course for biology students - discipline Freswater ecology. Students participate at seminars over several terms.
Course contents
In the seminars, topics of current interest from the research activity within the Freshwater group are presented (work reports, new results, literature reviews, guest lectures, term papers etc.), and the students present results from their own master theses. In addition, specific literature seminars are arranged, where different relevant ecological subjects are discussed based on selected articles that the students read on beforehand.
Objective of the course
Students that have completed Bio-3521 Seminars in freshwater ecology:
- Have general knowledge in freshwater ecology, in particular in relation to freshwater and anadromous fish
- Have insight to topical issues in ecology and management of northern freshwater systems
- Have experience in presenting and discussing scientific topics in plenary sessions
- Can read and understand scientific literature
- Can give oral presentations of research problems concerning this field of science

Teaching methods
80 hours of seminars.
Assessment
The students are obliged to give four approved oral presentations; two based on their master theses (i.e. progress reports), and two based on selected scientific papers. Attendance at the seminars is compulsory. Grade: pass/fail
