BABOR_06 Entrepreneurship and Innovation - 10 stp

Type of course

Subject can be taken as single course.

The course is relevant for Bachelor of Northern Studies students and compulsory for students choosing the advanced emphasis programme Arctic Innovation and Entrepreneurship (30 ECTS).


Course contents

Students will be provided with theoretical knowledge about innovation, entrepreneurship, and small businesses. Students will learn to cooperate practically with case companies and/or case organizations.

- Types of Entrepreneurs / Types of Organizations


Introduction to innovation

- Reasons to innovate

- Value-driven (service) innovation

- Implementation of innovation


The entrepreneurial process and innovation

- Exploration and Exploitation of opportunities

- Entrepreneurship as firm Behavior

- Basics on Business Models and The logic of effectuation


International and cross border entrepreneurship

- Aspects of cross border entrepreneurship in the Barents region;

- Internationalization strategies and

- Impact of cultures


Application deadline

Applicants from Nordic countries: 1 June for the autumn semester and 1 December for the spring semester.

Applicants from outside the Nordic countries: 1 October for the spring semester and 15 April for the autumn semester.

Exchange students and Fulbright students: 1 October for the spring semester and 15 April for the autumn semester.

Admission requirements:
Nordic applicants: Generell studiekompetanse

International applicants: Higher Education Entrance Qualification and certified language requirements in English.

Teaching methods

The lectures are organised in blocks.

For a week-long workshop, teaching could take place in other countries (Russia, Finland)

Methods are lectures, team work, paper writing, presentations, idea creation and communication with representatives of case organisations


Assessment

The students academic performance will be assessed both through:

A formative evaluation:

- Project and team work participation, i.e. attendance is compulsory (at least 80 % of class).

- Work Paper 

And a summative evaluation:

- Project work-based written papers

- Written Case work evaluations

- Final Term paper

Final term paper is graded A-F.
Possibility for resit exam in case of F.
