This course is reserved for bachelorstudents at the study program Biologi, klima og miljø and Arktisk forurensningsbiologi og forvaltning. The course is also available to exchange students and free-movers t a biology study program.

Course contents

The bachelor thesis intend to bring students into contact with issues and research within a certain discipline, and it requires a certain amount of independent effort in relation to this. The thesis may consist of the literary studies and / or practical / experimental work and the delivery report. It assumes knowledge of BIO-1000, basic courses in biology, as well as knowledge in the course of the BIO-2000 level that is relevant to the field of / chosen theme.

 


Application deadline

Applicants from Nordic countries: 1 June for the autumn semester and 1 December for the spring semester. Applicants from outside the Nordic countries: 1 October for the spring semester and 15 April for the autumn semester.

Applicants from Nordic countries must have:

Generell studiekompetanse, samt følgende spesielle opptakskrav:

Matematikk R1 eller matematikk S1+S2 og i tillegg ett av følgende programfag:

Søknadskode 9336 enkeltemner i realfag.

All participants must have taken introductory level university courses, and achieved pass grades, in these subjects.
International applicants: Higher Education Entrance Qualification and certified language requirements in English. It is a requirement that students have  some prior knowledge of biology and ecology, chemistry and mathematics. A list of the requirements for the Higher Education Entrance Qualification in Norway can be found on the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education website - nokut.no


Objective of the course

The purpose of the thesis is that the student should learn how to:

apply the knowledge gained from the study
examine literature and scientific information research within a certain biological discipline
define a research topic
collect and examine relevant information
choose analysis method
create a readable presentation
 


Language of instruction

English.

Individual studies and supervision.

Assessment

Project assignment/paper. Deadlines for handing in the project assignment/paper: June 1 (spring semester) and December 15. (autumn semester). Grades: Pass/fail
