On the UiT web, it says application date for international students is both 1 December and 1 March. What is the correct date?The programme Master of Fine Art has application date 1 March for all applicants.

I do not have a Bachelor degree in Fine Art, but from another field. Am I eligible for the Master of Fine Arts program? If you don't have a bachelor degree in Fine Art your qualifications will be evaluated by the committee. The basis of this evaluation is your artistic portfolio and your CV. We expect you to present relevant experiences in the field of fine arts that qualify you to pursue an individual, self-initiated project in Fine Art on a masters level.

Is the programme taught entirely in English? Yes. All the teaching and writing is in English.

In the application components you ask for written descriptions about artistic direction and focus. What does that mean? We ask for a written description about artistic direction and focus regarding the portfolio work samples

When will I be informed whether I am invited to an interview or not? We will send out invitations to the interviews in April, with suggested date and hour. Please note: We will only contact the applicants who are invited for an interview. You will not receive a message that you are not invited.

Who is going to take part in the interview? The interview will be conducted by the committee.  It is composed of the Head of Department, members of the scientific staff, one external professional and students representatives.

I am a resident outside of the EU. Do I need a visa to enter Norway? Please read about international admissions here

Do I have to live in Tromsø during the study? We expect the students to be living in Tromsø in the study periode.

Will I get my own studio? The Master students will have shared studio together with other Master students. The studios are ca 35 square metre, with a nice view.  All students have access to a wide range of professionally equipped workshops and facilities.

How long is one semester? In Norway the autumn semester usually starts in the middle of August, and ends in the middle of December. The spring semester is from the beginning of January, and until midth June.

Can I apply for exchange during the study? You may apply for exchange in the third semester. Your studies abroad are integrated into your study programme, so you do not lose your study progression.

I cannot be there when the semester start. What should I do? If you cannot meet up on the start date, please send a written application to student administration as soon as possible (kunstakademiet@kunstfak.uit.no ). Documentation of the reason for absence must accompany the application. The academy only approves absences when significant grounds for absence can be documented. Holidays are not considered significant grounds.

It can be difficult to find housing in Tromsø, so it is smart to start the search as soon as possible.
