ELE-3605 Electrical Engineering Project - 5 ECTS

Type of course

Can be taken as a single subject. The course is reserved for students belonging to Master in Electrical Engineering.

Admission requirements

A relevant undergraduate Bachelor degree in Engineering program in power electronics and electrical machines. Basic knowledge in power systems is also an advantage. 

In addition, the following requirements must be met: 

- minimum 25 credits in mathematics (equivalent to Mathematical Methods 1, 2 og 3), 5 credits in statistics and 7,5 ects i physics on a higher level is required.

Course content

The student will choose one of the presented design projects within electrical engineering. Relevant topics includes power electronics, energy conversion, control systems, automation and communication. All project proposals will include both a theoretical and a practical part (lab work/simulation). Lectures on design of printed circuit boards and a soldering course will be provided.

Objectives of the course

After completing the subject, the candidate will have the following learning outcome:

Knowledge:

  • The candidate will have knowledge about the working principle of the chosen project topic
  • The candidate will be able to explain the relevant theory for the chosen project
  • The candidate will know how to write a project report according to the IEEE standard
  • The candidate will have knowledge on running experiments and conducting measurements in a laboratory environment

Skills:

  • The candidate will be able to derive a mathematical model of the project case
  • The candidate will be able to implement a simulation model of the project case
  • The candidate will be able to build an experimental prototype setup for laboratory tests
  • The candidate will be able to perform laboratory measurements, analysis and troubleshooting using scientific instruments

General competence:

  • The candidate will be able to see general electrical engineering theory in a practical perspective
  • The candidate will have a basic knowledge of scientific working methods

The work on a chosen topic among the available choices can be performed in small groups or individually. The report should be written according to current scientific standards. 

More info about the oral exam

The final grade is based on the project report and a individual adjusting oral exam. The whole grade scale can be applied after adjustment. The final grade has to be set before a complaint can be made.

Re-sit examination

A re-sit opportunity is offered with a new project report and oral presentation. The report should cover a new topic.
