Objectives of the course

Knowledge

The student ...

  • has an overview of concepts, models and concepts within digitalization and digital transformations and its associated drivers and success factors.
  • has good knowledge of technologies for industrial digitization such as autonomous propulsion, the Internet of Things (IoT) and digital twins.
  • has knowledge of concepts in machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data and data management and how these can be applied to maritime data for increased benefits in maritime operations and sustainable shipping.
  • has knowledge of other technologies that are important for maritime digitization such as, block chain, cloud services.

 

Skills

The student ...

  • has insight into and can explain how emerging technologies and digital trends will shape the maritime industry going forward.
  • has insight into how the different technologies for maritime digitalisation are important for digital transformations and can be used for increased added value and optimization within the different maritime domains as well as the weaknesses and limitations of these technologies.
  • has the ability to explain how and what data is created in the different maritime segments and business areas and what characterizes them.
  • is able to distinguish between the different types of data and data sources available in the maritime industry and how these can be analysed and used for operational optimization and for the usefulness of more environmentally friendly and sustainable shipping

 

General competence

The student ...

  • has the ability to identify and describe which activities and business areas in the maritime industries are relevant for digitalisation.
  • has expertise in the types of technologies used in maritime digitalisation and can explain how these can be used for better decision support particularly related to challenges in environmentally friendly and sustainable shipping.

In order to take the exam, 3 out of 4 compulsory assignments, consisting of assignments and group assignments, must be completed and approved.

Re-sit examination

Re-sit exam is granted to the students who have failed the last ordinary arranged exam.
