Applicants from countries within EU/EEA: June 1st for the autumn semester and December 1st for the spring semester.

Exchange students and Fulbright students: 1 October for the spring semester and 15 April for the autumn semester.

Course content

Dynamics of point masses, the two-body problem, Keplers equations, Lagrange coefficients, orbital position as a function of time, orbits in three dimensions, orbital maneuvers, rigid body dynamics, satellite attitude dynamics.

Objectives of the course

Kunnskaper og forståelse:

-The students should have detailed knowledge about celestial mechanics and modelling of spacecraft in 6 degrees of freedom.

Ferdigheter:

- The students should be able to formulate and explain the basic equations governing spacecraft modelling and control.

Kompetanse:

-The students should be able to apply the knowledge to modelling of spacecraft and design of simple control system for attitude control.

Teaching methods

Classroom lectures and written exercises. The course takes two weeks, each of 30 hours.  Each day 4 hours of lectures, and 2 hours of exercises.

Assessment

Mandatory tasks: 5 of 10 exercises must be delivered at least 1 week before exam.

Exam: 3 hour written exam. Marks A-F.  F equals not passed. A re-sit exam will be arranged for this course
