Course content

  • Tuition in relevant art history, theory and professional ethics
  • Knowledge about the social contexts and prerequisites of artistic practice
  • The planning and carrying out of a separate exhibition
  • Study trip


Objectives of the course

After completing the course, the student has the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the context and prerequisites of artistic practice
  • A good knowledge of relevant art history, theory and professional ethics
  • Knowledge of the planning and completion of a solo exhibition

Skills

  • Ability to plan and carry out a solo exhibition
  • Ability to contextualize and reflect on artistic work produced both by oneself and by others

General competence

  • An understanding of the production and execution of a solo exhibition
  • An understanding of the prerequisites of the art world
  • Ability to apply relevant knowledge of art history, theory and professional ethics
  • A social perspective on artistic practice

Teaching methods

Lectures, seminars, workshops, studio discussions, supervision, independent artistic work and study trip

Assessment

The following coursework requirements must be approved before the exam:

  • Project outline describing one's own separate exhibition
  • Separate exhibition
  • Group evaluation of the individual exhibition and participation in group evaluation of fellow students
  • Attendance of the study trip

The exam consists of a submitted portfolio, an oral presentation and an examination. The oral presentation and the examination will be based on the submitted portfolio.

The portfolio must include:

  • Descriptions and reflections on participation in courses and workshops
    • Visual documentation of works made in connection with courses or workshops
    • A short description of the content of courses or workshops
    • Reflection on own learning outcome
  • Description and reflections on offered Artist talks and studio discussions.
  • Documentation of own solo exhibition:
    • Preparatory works (preliminary proposals / sketches / drafts) for own art work
    • Description of the work; medium, material, measurements etc.
    • Sketches / pictures / other documentation of the art work's presentation
    • Text presenting the art work, contextualizing and reflecting on its intention and significance

Exams are assessed with an overall grade according to the grading Passed/Not passed.

Re-sit exam the following semester.
