STE6222 Mechanics of Composite Materials - 5 ECTS

Applicants from Nordic countries: 1 June for the autumn semester and 1 December for the spring semester. Exchange students and Fulbright students: 1 October for the spring semester and 15 April for the autumn semester.

A relevant undergraduate bachelor Engineering programme with minimum 30 credits Mathematics/statistics topics

Course content

  • Unidirectional fiber composites (UFC).
  • Effects of changes in temperature and moisture content.
  • Laminated plates made from layers of UFCs.
  • Failure criteria for laminated plates.

STE6236 Theory of Elasticity

Objectives of the course

On completion of the course the successful student is expected to have the following:

Knowledge. The classical theoretical development of models and practical solutions for plates fabricated of thin layers of anisotropic elastic materials.

Skills. Experience with computations and simple analysis of elastic properties of laminate plates.

General competence. Basic knowledge of the terminology used in classical applications of laminate plates.

Teaching methods

Lectures, problem sessions, and computer labs.

Assessment

Evaluation: Written exam. Three hours. The candidates are not allowed to bring anything else than writing tools to the written exam.

Grading will be done by using A-F grading scale, F is Fail. A re-sit exam will be arranged for this course.
