SIK-2004 HSE risk assessment and management - 10 ECTS
Course content
- Main environmental problems from normal industrial activities, including air pollution, water pollution, solid waste production etc.;
- Environmental risk monitoring methods, including pollutants, noise, dust etc.;
- Modelling the transport of contaminants in the environment;
- Environmental risk assessment methods;
- HMS regulation regarding soil, air and sea, including the purpose of the regulations; the role and responsibilities of supervisory authorities; responsible distribution and participation in the activities;
- Industrial accidents, including fire, explosion, release of toxic substances etc.;
- Risk analysis of industrial accidents;
- Health and safety at workplace (exposure to risk at workplace, exposure limits at workplace, calculation of overexposure at workplace);
- How to build up an internal control system/quality assurance system, especially emphasizing the working environment law and regulations relating to systematic health, environment and safety in enterprises;
- HMS-management system.
Objectives of the course
Knowledge:
- The candidate has knowledge about the framework for HSE regulations in general, including legislation, responsibilities of enterprises and supervisory authorities;
- Have good knowledge on major environmental problems from normal industry activity, including air pollution, water pollution and land pollution;
- Have good knowledge on environmental risk and its monitoring methods;
- Have good knowledge on industrial hazards;
- Have good knowledge on health and safety at workplace;
Skills:
- The ability to plan and implement HSE-analysis according to the internal control regulations;
- The ability to perform an environmental risk assessment;
- The ability to perform risk analysis from industrial accidents;
- The ability to analyze the health and safety at workplace;
- The ability to manage risk from industrial hazards, put forward a management plan to prevent accidents and reduce risk from industrial hazards.
General competence:
- Analysis of risk from normal industrial activities and accidents;
- Knowledge on HSE laws and regulations and how they are formulated and implemented in businesses.
Assessment
Project report (25%) 4 hours written exam (75 %) Both parts must be passed. Letter grading A - F.
The results of the two exams will be merged into one grade. One can¿t bring one of its parts to another academic year.
The exercises need to get approved in order to get access to the exam.
Students who have not passed - or have legitimate absence at the last ordinary examination are offered a re-sit examination early in the following semester.
