Course content

Definitions and terms. The supply chain. Value chain. Planning and forecasting. Production scheduling. Capacity planning. Layouts. Calculating material requirements. Inventory management. ABC inventory analysis. Manufacturing concepts (MRP I, MRP II, JIT, KANBAN etc.). Flow analysis. Flow oriented and lean manufacturing. Supply chain management. Short-term scheduling. ERP-systems.

Objectives of the course

After having finished the course and passed the exam the students will have a broad knowledge and understanding of the principles and concepts related to logistics, especially internal logistics and operations within a manufacturing company. The students will also be able to understand the relations between the different processes and their importance to the profitability of a company, and know about principles, tools and systems used to develop and improve these processes.

Teaching methods

Concentrated classroom lectures, self studies, individual exercises, and team exercises.

Assessment

Mandatory tasks It is prepared for a total of nine exercises, seven of these are mandatory. The mandatory exercises have to be answered in writing, handed in and approved by the teacher. Submission deadlines will be specified in the task text.

Exam:

One 3 hour exam. Letter grade A-F, where F is not passed.

A re-sit exam will be arranged for this course
