«Using FullFlow to manage the overwhelming flood of patients’ self-collected health data: a system that addresses acceptance barriers regarding the introduction of diabetes patients’ self-collected health data into electronic health records and medical consultations»

Populærvitenskapelig sammendrag:

This doctoral thesis proposes a computer system that facilitates the introduction of health data collected by diabetes patients using wearables and mobile applications in medical consultations. Two of the most important challenges, identified using workshops involving clinicians and healthcare authorities, are 1) the difficulty for clinicians to extract useful information from this type of data and 2) that the data collected is inconsistent and untrustworthy. To address these issues, the thesis proposed a computer system built using artifical intelligence techniques to 1) determine if the data is reliable enough to be used during consultations and 2) to extract and present relevant information from the data collected to clinicians. The assessment of this system using a use-case scenario involving clinicans showed that it will be useful and relevant during consultations.
