Research data management at UiT: An introduction (registration deadline March 13)

Research data is an essential part of many research projects, and they should be managed according to best practice throughout the project period. Before you start a project, you should identify which data already exist in the field. When collecting your own data, you should follow the standards that are established for similar data. Furthermore, you should structure your data in a good way, and have a plan for how the data will be managed. If the data can be made available to others, you should publish the data in a suitable archive and select an appropriate license.

This spring, the University Library a variety of courses focusing on research data. In Research data management at UiT: An introduction, we give an introduction to Principles and guidelines for research data management at UiT, and the support services that are developed in order to help the researcher meet the requirements, including UiT's institutional archive UiT Open Research Data. We will also place the work at UiT in a larger context and explain the benefits of sharing research data, for the researchers themselves, for the research community, and for society in general.

The other courses are thematic, and demand some knowledge about research data. Here, you can learn more about how to search and cite research data, how to select an appropriate license for your own research data, how you structure, document, and share your research data, and how you write a data management plan.

All courses are given in both Norwegian and English, both in classroom and via Skype.
