Take control of your PhD journey: EndNote advanced

How to use EndNote to optimise your workflow

Present-day academics spend much of their time writing articles for journals, often in collaboration with fellow researchers. Further, preparing a manuscript requires thorough navigation in the existent research literature. Both aspects of the writing process involve challenges relating to the handling of references: how to share them with your co-author(s), and how to organise them in order to most efficiently extract what is relevant for your manuscript.

Having used EndNote (http://endnote.com), you already have a personal EndNote library with your own references, and you are familiar with the Cite While You Write functionality. In this seminar, which takes you through more advanced functions in EndNote, you will learn how to best use EndNote in the writing process. We propose to focus on three main themes:

  • Syncing and sharing libraries through EndNote online
  • Organisation of large EndNote libraries
  • Referencing styles

We will try to adjust the course content to the needs of the participants. Therefore, when registering for the course, please go here and select the topics of interest.

Note that we expect all participants in this course to have a basic knowledge of EndNote, including:

  • Set up an EndNote library and collect references
  • Import references from external databases (e.g. Oria)
  • Search for and organise references in an EndNote library
  • Insert references into a Word document using references from an EndNote library
  • Edit citations and reference lists in Word

If you need a refresher prior to the course, please consult the course material available from this page.

The seminar is organised by Helene N. Andreassen and Torstein Låg

Light refreshments will be served during the break.

This seminar is a freestanding part of the seminar series Take control of your PhD journey: From (p)reflection to Publishing.
