What role can citizens play in creating an effective climate policy?

What role can citizens play in creating an effective climate policy? - Steffen Kallbekken, CICERO from UArctic on Vimeo.

Despite the fact that most governments and their citizens acknowledge climate change as a serious challenge that needs to be dealt with through adequate actions, we have failed to implement sufficiently ambitious actions. As climate science becomes ever more certain, and the climate projections more threatening, citizen concern is declining, and government action at best sluggish. What is the potential to engage the citizens in order to create a more effective climate policy?

In my presentation I will review research on how to build public support for effective climate policies, as well as on how citizens can be involved directly in pro-climate action. I will draw heavily on recent insights from behavioural economics.
