Guest Lecture by M.D., M.P.H. Donald K. Warne: “American Indian Public Health: History, Current Issues, and Promising Practices”

The Centre for Sami Health Research are pleased to welcome all to this open guest lecture with Donald K. Warne, University of North Dakota.

Donald K. Warne, M.D., M.P.H., currently work as the Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Director of the Indians into Medicine (INMED) program at the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences (SMHS), University of North Dakota. He is the Director of the Master of Public Health (MPH) Program, and Professor of Family and Community Medicine at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Donald Warne researches Health Disparities, Health Policy, Primary Care, Epidemiology and Public Health. In particular, Warne's research interests are within health inequalities and the collective impact of trauma, particularly how historical trauma, discrimination, and marginalisation over time and across generations affect living conditions and health of Indigenous peoples in the United States. 

In his lecture, Warne describes the historical background of the health challenges characterising the Native American population of the United States today and the health care system's measures in meeting these challenges.
