Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the cancer types that is associated with the most severe disease- and treatment related morbidity, and side effects of the treatment may be devastating for the quality of life. Further, the survival rate for this type of cancer is low and has been almost unchanged for several decades. In Norway, the treatment for OSCC is centralized to the university hospitals in Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Tromsø. The Norwegian Oral Cancer (NOROC) study is established as collaboration between these four centers included the connected university research groups. The study is based on a multi-disciplinary approach and our ambitious goal is to provide knowledge based national guidelines for diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of this group of patients.
