UiTbreakfast with Professor Dietrich Jung: What is IS? Terrororganisation or a State in the Making?

Militants from the so-called Islamic State (IS) have seized large parts of Syria and Iraq, where as many as 10 million people live under their control. This UiT Breakfast addresses how it came into being and the context and conditions for current developments.

We have invited one of the leading scholars on the issue Professor Dietrich Jung, Director for the Center of Middel East Studies at Syddansk Universitet. Professor Jung will give a presentation where he will discuss various historical aspects and the present situation for the Islamic State.

After the presentations we open the floor for questions from the audience. As usual questions from students will be given first priority. We estimate to be done at 10:00, but there will be an opportunity for interested students to stay behind after the seminar. The room is booked until 11:00, and Dietrich Jung will stay behind after the seminar to take part in discussions with students.

Free breakfast, coffee and tea is served 08.45.
