MBI-8001 Molecular and Clinical Aspects of Infection, Inflammation and Immunity - 10 ECTS

Admission requirements

Applicants should be qualified for admission to PhD-program in infection, inflammation and/or immunology. PhD students at UiT that are not part of the research school "Infection, Inflammation and Immunity¿ and external PhD students will be evaluated by the course committee based upon their documented qualifications. Course content

The course provides insight and knowledge of the research fields of antimicrobial drugs, pharmacoepidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, microbial adaption and evolution, resistance determinants, spread of resistance, microbial determinants for colonisation and infection, biofilm, host determinants for bacterial colonisation, host response, all aspects of innate and adaptive immune response to alloantigens, microbial antigens and autoantigens, and infection epidemiology.

Objectives of the course

From this course students should be able to:
  • Define a relevant research question within the scientific field of this course.
  • Suggest a research approach to answer the problem.
  • Consider methods to apply.
  • Consider the research knowledge about important questions, approaches, applied methods and research activities within selected topics within the research areas infection, inflammation and immunity.

Teaching methods

The course includes 35 hours lecture and 15 hours seminar and is scheduled to one 10 days period.

Assessment

Work requirements

  • Lectures and seminars are obligatory.
  • One Essay on a subject selected by the student. The essay should be in the form of a research proposal and follow the ERC/RCN outline. The Essay is evaluated by the student¿s PhD supervisor and one from the course committee. 

Assessment
One Oral presentation of a given scientific publication/subject appointed by the course committee. The Oral presentation is evaluated as passed/not passed.

Continuation
The course is given once each year. There are no means of continuation.
