FROM THE MUSEUM’S COLLECTIONS
Sundew plants eat insects, but generally smaller flies are the ones that end up in the
“tentacles” of this plant. It was therefore something of a surprise to discover that the
plant can also catch large dragonflies. The dragonfly in the picture never escaped, and
thus turned into a substantial meal for this particular plant.
Ladybugs are cute insects, and it is said that they bring luck.
But they are actually predators that love to eat aphids.
Many people are afraid of wasps and their sting can even be deadly. This picture shows a wasp looking for food, normally other insects, but wasps also like
sweet things.
