2022_Film Screening: Alle mine rein kjenner jeg

As part of the Sami Week in Tromsø (31 January - 6 February 2022) WONA arranged the film screening of Buot iežan bohccuid dovdann / Alle mine rein kjenner jeg (All my reindeer I know) by Grete Andrea Kvaal. The screening of the short film was followed by a conversation with Kvaal.

About the film: We meet reindeer herder Karen Anna Nilsdatter Logje Gaup (b. 1938) who lives her life moving with her reindeer, from the winter pasture in Kautokeino in spring, to the summer pasture on Arnøya and back to the winter pasture in the autumn. The film is directed by Grete Andrea Kvaal and the film photography by Karen Anna's granddaughter Ánne Kátjá Nilsdatter Gaup.

Grete Andrea Kvaal’s goal has been, among other things, to make visible and highlight women's important position in reindeer husbandry. The starting point for the film is Kvaal's long collaboration with Logje Gaup. In 1986, Kvaal started documenting women's work in reindeer husbandry, which has resulted comprehensive picture material. Some photographs from the project were included together with the film in the exhibition Alle mine rein kjenner jeg: Karen Anna og hennes siida 1986–2020, shown at the Center of northern peoples / Davvi álbmogiid guovddáš OS and RiddoDuottarMuseat. Kvaal’s work has previouslybeen shown at the Festspillene i Nord-Norge (1988). In 2001 Kvaal published the book Karen Anna og hennes siida (Pax forlag).
