2021_Seminar Guest: Gustav Jørgen Pedersen

For this seminar WONA invited Head of Department, Department of Language and Culture at UIT The Arctic University of Norway to present his research area, in particular his recent contribution to the publication Oppløsningen av det estetiske. Kunstteori og estetisk praksis, edited by Ståle Finke and Mattias Solli, Oslo: Universitetsforlaget, 2021, entitled Mot estetikkens overvinnelse. Heidegger og von Hantelmann.

Gustav Jørgen Pedersen is Head of Department, Department of Language and Culture at UIT The Arctic University of Norway since 2020. He received his PhD in Art history/Philosophy from the University in Oslo with On the Pictorial Thinking of Death: A Study in Martin Heidegger’s Unthought Art History of Being Regarding Edvard Munch’s The Sick Child and Metabolism. He also worked as a senior advisor at Kulturtanken, a sub-section of the Ministry of Culture that works at the intersection between education and culture. 

Pedersen also member of the UiT research group Interdisciplinary Phenomenology which focuses on phenomenological relevance for the development of the self in relation to others, embodiment, and hermeneutics as each of these relates to our scholarly disciplines. The group works with the whole tradition of phenomenology but is especially engaged with contemporary developments in the field.
