Epidemiology of VTE

Alterations of risk factor levels, new prevention strategies, diagnostic tools and treatment may alter the rate of VTE in a community, and changes in the incidence of VTE during the last 20 years have not been well-studied. Moreover, there is little information describing the precipitants and conditions present at diagnosis of VTE, especially across age-groups and sex. The aims of this project are to investigate the incidence of VTE, clinical characteristics and conditions present at time of diagnosis, treatment patterns and adherence to treatment guidelines, as well as the incidence of short- and long-term outcomes including recurrent VTE, major bleeding and mortality after a VTE event.
