Early Life Microbiome (P3)
This project investigates how the microbiome—the community of microorganisms living in and on the body—affects health during early life and motherhood. It focuses on improving prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infections in newborn infants and breastfeeding women, while reducing unnecessary antibiotic exposure.
Through clinical, register-based and population studies, the project will examine how microbiome composition is linked to infection, presentation of symptoms, treatment and the development of antimicrobial resistance. It also explores whether microbiome-modulating interventions can support infant health and reduce carriage of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
Overall, the project aims to contribute to improved diagnostics, more targeted infection management and better maternal and child health.
To address these objectives, the project consists three work-packages(WPs), each led by one or more principal investigators
