Recruit and Retain: Making it Work

Project owner(s): Centre for Rural Medicine, Sweden
Project's time span: 2015-2019

The main goal of the project was to develop a generic framework for working practically and systematically with the recruitment and stabilization of key personnel to health and other welfare services in the district. The overarching goal was good health and good living conditions for populations in the district. As part of the project, each partner country worked with its unique case studies. These studies provided important empirical input to the development of the framework described in the article. The Norwegian case study included Meløy, Odda, and Årdal, three municipalities that have had significant recruitment challenges in their general practitioner services over time. Financed by EUs Interreg Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme 2014–2020.

Key achievements include developing the Framework for Remote Rural Workforce Stability and conducting insightful case studies across various countries. These studies demonstrated the importance of community engagement and adapting strategies to local contexts. The project resulted in completed PhD theses, published research articles, and new understandings of health inequalities. Link to the webpage.
