Systems Support for AI
Digital infrastructures are based on efficient, scalable, transparent, and secure distributed systems. Key digital services in a modern society like, for instance, electricity, finance, defense, surveillance, public services, e-commerce, social networking, collaboration, and video streaming are all using reliable and available distributed systems to provide their services. Public cloud platforms from Amazon, Google, and Microsoft are examples of large-scale distributed systems being used 24/7 to provide vital services to millions, if not billions, of users.
We are adressing fundamental distributed system problems. Our mission is fostering a principled approach to the design and and development of trustworthy and efficient distributed systems, and to educate our students to master the complexity when developing this type of systems with inherent conflicting non-functional properties. Our current systems focus is on supporting modern large-scale machine learning solutions.
