Determinants and consequences of obesity in Russia and Norway

PhD project Kamila Khalmatova

Obesity prevalence is increasing worldwide. Investigation of modifiable risk factors of obesity is important for prevention. Obesity has associations with cardiovascular and chronic kidney diseases and can also predispose appearance of other cardiovascular risk factors.

The data of obesity prevalence in Russia is vague. The features of obesity in Russia can be revealed if compared with a population with similar geographic location and climate conditions but different cardiovascular mortality and socioeconomic status.

Overall objective: to investigate and compare socioeconomic and behavioral determinants and consequences of obesity (kidney impairment) and its associations with other cardiovascular risk factors in Russia and Norway.
