The project involves the production, evaluation and optimisation of Arctic marine secondary metabolites from Northern Norway as antifouling agents. The bioactive compounds found and produced will be further chemically modified to allow for incorporation in paint formulations to yield surfaces resistant to fouling and for surface immobilization. The produced materials will after field studies find use in both marine and medical applications. Generation of a structure activity relationship (SAR) model allowing for the cheap, large-scale generation of efficient, green antifouling compounds is a goal. In addition, the comprehensive antifouling screening of the untested compounds isolated by MabCent is a collateral result that is of large scientific interest and will generate an insight into the biological role of these secondary metabolites.
