About the project in Norwegian
The University of Tromsø started autumn 2010 a new differentiated five year master program in teacher education called "Pilot in North". This program consists of two tracks, one for grade 1-7 and a second track for grade 5-10 in compulsory education. This is the first master programme for such education in Norway.
The ambition behind the new programme reflects a worldwide activity in developing new professional development programs for increased competence and greater professional satisfaction through an education more focused on enhancing literacy as well as academic learning outcomes based on academic framed knowledge evidence-based tools and practices.
Sharing a common understanding of the challenges facing future teacher education has resulted in an agreement between the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Oslo and the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education at the University of Tromsø concerning practice schools - named university schools - as a new model for improving the integration of theory and practice, content knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge and pedagogical knowledge and knowledge growth in teacher training.
