Useful information regarding taking PhD courses at UiT

Once you have been informed that you will be admitted to a PhD course at the UiT, it is important that you go to StudentWeb and sign up for class and examination in the course. You can find the user guide and information about how to do this here. Note that you must sign up for classes and the examination by a given deadline.

In the student portal, you will find links to Fronter, Timeplan, StudentWeb and many other useful resources.

Fronter

Several of our PhD courses uses Fronter to send out information to students. To access Fronter, you must have created an IT user account at UiT. You can find information about how to do this here. To access the room for the course in Fronter, you must have signed up for teaching in the course in StudentWeb. As several of our PhD courses uses Fronter actively, both to send information to students and as the submission portal for coursework requirements, it is important that you have created an IT user account and logged into Fronter already before your first class.

Finding your way around campus

Most of the classes in PhD courses in the Faculty of Health Sciences takes place in the MH-building. The room number of the classrooms used can be found in the schedule for the course. You can find the link to the schedule on the course website, or by searching for the course here. By clicking on the room number in the schedule, you get a map showing where on campus the room is. You can find a map of the entire campus here.

Getting to campus

Campus is located 5 km from the airport and 5 km from the centre of Tromsø. To get from the airport to the city centre, you can take bus route 42. There is no direct bus from the airport to campus, so if you are going by bus you must change to route 33 in Gieverbukta or to routes 34, 20 or 21 in the city centre. The bus from the Tromsø city centre to campus takes about 15 minutes. The "Troms Reise" app provides an overview of your closest bus stop and the times of the next departures.

It is more expensive to pay cash on the bus than to pre-pay for a ticket. You can pre-pay a ticket in selected kiosks and via the "Troms Mobillett" app. If you plan to travel by public transport in Tromsø, we recommend that you download this app.

Accommodation

Unfortunately, the University does not offer accommodation for students taking single course. Hotel Scandic Tromsø is the closest hotel within walking distance to campus. If you want to stay more centrally and cheaper, there are several cheaper hotels in the city centre.

Experience Tromsø

If you have time to do things other than study, there are many things going on in Tromsø. At Visit Tromsø, you can find information and an overview of sights and events in Tromsø.
