Emmelie Åström

I am a marine ecologist working with benthos and cold seeps in the Arctic. The current focus is to investigate chemosynthetic carbon sources from cold seeps on macro-biota in the Barents Sea and Arctic.

General about the project:

Natural emissions from sub-seabed gas reservoirs provides the potential for chemosynthetically fueled ecosystems to form. In the Arctic, there are only few studies assessing biological communities around cold seeps and the goal is to extend the current knowledge of Arctic cold seeps and the impact on macro-benthos in the Arctic. 

The project is funded by VISTA – a basic research program in collaboration between The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, and Equinor.
