Objectives of the course

Introduction

The course is divided into two parts drilling and production of oil and gas.

Objectives of the course.

Students will learn the concept of drilling and production.

In the production part, students will learn how to

  • Characterize different reservoir fluids
  • Estimate fluid compositions at various separator's temperatures and pressures
  • Estimate oil and gas production rates from saturated and under saturated reservoir fluids short and long term.

In the drilling part, students will learn

  • Traditional equipment on the drill floor, such as the drill string and other equipment.
  • How to calculate the main mechanical loads on the drill string, and the safe loading on the drill string.
  • About drilling mud properties including flow calculations, the functions of mud, and how this relates to the fluid pressures downhole, the pore and formation pressures.
  • About safety problems and the equipment and procedures used to prevent accidents.
