New post on the NCLOS blog!

"The Application of Teachings by the International Tribunal for the Law of the SeaSondre Torp Helmersen has contributed to a post on the NCLOS blog, describing how the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) applies the ‘teachings of the most highly qualified publicists’ (as the ICJ Statute Article 38 puts it) when deciding cases. The post builds on an article published in the Journal of International Dispute Settlement. The article undertakes an empirical analysis of the ITLOS’ judicial methodology, and is the first such analysis of the Tribunal. Findings include Judge Laing being the heaviest user of teachings in the Tribunal, and the Virginia Commentary being the most popular book.
