BIO-2610 Bachelor Thesis in Marine Biotechnology - 10 ECTS

Application deadline

Applicants from Nordic countries: 1 June for the autumn semester and 1 December for the spring semester. Applicants from outside the Nordic countries: 1 October for the spring semester and 15 April for the autumn semester.

Practical or theoretical. The course can also be taken as a singular course
 

Admission requirements

Applicants from Nordic countries: Generell studiekompetanse + Matematikk R1 eller (S1+S2) og enten Matematikk (R1+R2) eller Fysikk (1+2) eller Kjemi (1+2) eller Biologi (1+2) eller Informasjonsteknologi( 1+2) eller Geologi (1+2) eller Teknologi og forskningslære (1+2).

International applicants: Higher Education Entrance Qualification and certified language requirements in English. It is a requirement that students have  some prior knowledge of biology and ecology, chemistry and mathematics (Participants must have taken introductory level university courses, and achieved pass grades, in these subjects).

Course content

  • Practical laboratory work on a given subject in biotechnology that is given in agreement with the student at the beginning of the semester (Bachelor thesis).
  • Written term paper on the work of the subject


Language of instruction and examination

Norwegian or English (after agreement).

Teaching methods

  • There will be an introduction at the beginning of the semester with presentation of the possible projects/tasks available (a given supervisor is appointed for each task)
  • Choice of project (belonging to a specific research groups in the Norwegian College of Fishery Science (NFH))

Guidance, practical and theoretical, by the supervisor(s) in the objective and work of the project.


Assessment

A written term paper (Bachelor thesis). The grading is "passed" or "failed".
A re-sit exam is arranged in the next semester.

Recommended reading/syllabus

Will be dependent of the thesis that is chosen.
