Degree programmes

University of  Tromsø The Arctic University of Norway  offers around 30 English-taught Master’s and Bachelor’s degree programmes. Many of the science programmes offer different specializations.


Short programmes

UiT offers short programmes on Bachelor’s level on Campus Alta, Harstad and Svalbard. Subjects range from Tourism Studies, Arctic Nature Guide to Northern Studies (Online). Some course packages can also be chosen by Exchange students, which take place over two semesters (one academic year).

Online programmes

Online programmes of study offer students the flexibility of studying from anywhere and at any time over the Internet. These programmes are available online, which means you can fit your studies around your profession and/or without having to physically leave the confort of your home country. Other admissions

Applicant cattegories
  • Foreign degree-applicants residing in Norway:  This category covers all foreign applicants residing in Norway on work visa, Study Permit, Protection (Refugee Status), Permanent Residency and Marriage/Family visa.

  • Nordic applicants: This category covers applicants who are nationals of Denmark (including Faroe Islands and Greenland), Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

  • Norwegian applicants: This category covers Norwegian citizens with basic education from outisde the Nordic countries.

  • Freemover/Single-course applicants: This category covers bachelor, master and PhD applicants who intend to apply for singular courses taught in English or Norwegian.

  • Inbound student mobility: This category covers all inbound bachelor, master, PhD, Fulbright and placement/internship students from our parter institutions with whom we have formal agreements.

  • PhD education: This category includes all students who have already completed their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and plan to apply for a full PhD programme at UiT.

  • Guest researchers: This category includes scholar from an institution who would like to visit UiT and is planning to teach, lecture, or perform research on a topic the visitor is valued for.
